Our Lady of Sorrows School recognizes the need for school-based childcare within our community. YCARE provides a safe and loving before and after school environment for kindergarten thru eighth grade school students.
The Farmington Family YMCA has served over 800 children within Farmington Public schools alone. YMCA Afterschool programs deliver a safe, secure, inclusive environment with staff committed to nurturing the potential of each child in our program. With a focus on safety, health, social growth and academic enhancement, our Afterschool Care program serves kindergartners through middle school with a variety of activities to explore and develop their interests and talents when the school day ends.
Children in our program develop valuable life skills through activities like homework assistance, arts and crafts, literacy, board games, group games, and outdoor play. They also make healthy choices that include eating nutritious snacks, taking time for active play, and participating in healthy activities.
YCARE hours are from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM before and after school.
My name is Tanya Murphy and I have been employed by the Farmington Family YMCA for over 14 years in several areas, all within youth development. I hold a Bachelors of Science degree from Lawrence Technological University plus additional credits in Architecture and Education. My family has lived in Farmington Hills for over 20 years and both of my children have attended Our Lady of Sorrows as well as being parishioners at the church for several years. At this time we are working diligently to be able to start providing care within the first few weeks of school. As safety is our top priority we will be working tirelessly over the next few weeks to provide the proper staffing (including COVID training) and required licensing inspections in order to comply with all state and local regulations. Registration information will be sent via email to those who have contacted Tanya Murphy directly or have registered through Kids Club prior to September 2020. If you need this information and have yet to contact Mrs Murphy please email your request to email@example.com
We know it’s important for students to have consistent emergency routines from the moment they enter school to the time they leave. Therefore, we partner with school security and administrators to ensure our procedures align with those of your district (e.g. school disaster plans and monthly drills).
We are always prepared. The YMCA employs extensive safety procedures to ensure student safety from the moment they walk into our programs to when they are picked up by parents.
Through live training, monthly drills, quality checks, and compliance audits, we make sure that our on site teams are fully prepared to implement safety procedures, address any safety concerns, and are ready to deal with unexpected events. Our teams also maintain certifications in first aid and CPR/AED and undergo ongoing training to maintain preparedness for any medical events that may occur.
Having the right staff in place is critical to the safety and success of our enrichment programs. Our team members are fingerprinted and go through extensive background checks before and during employment with us.State licensing ratios are 1:18. Staffing is dependent on the number of students attending. If staff are out of ration at any time the Site Director will call the Program Director immediately at which time additional staff will be moved from another site to comply.
The Y provides professional development for all staff
The Y hires experienced, educated staff

Staff are CPR/FA certified, redwoods certified in Bloodborne pathogens, and also childsafe trained as well
Pricing will be a set fee not hourly as has been reflected in the past. A set fee is required to be able to determine staffing on a daily basis as the state licensing ratio of 1:18 must be maintained at all times. This set fee will be charged dependent on contract days chosen prior to care each Sunday via auto draft set up through the YMCA billing department. Parents may choose to have their child attend as little as one morning up to a full time schedule. Drop in cards may be purchased for those who only need care on a random basis.
