Preschool, Kindergarten, and Kids’ Club

The Our Lady of Sorrows Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten program provides a nurturing environment that inspires a young child’s spiritual growth and plants the seeds of God’s great love for them in their hearts. We are dedicated to educating children using developmentally appropriate practices that encourage a child’s natural curiosity and love for learning. The Early Childhood program at Our Lady of Sorrows is located in our Family Center building and has been designed specifically for the developmental needs of our youngest learners. We offer the following programs:

Our Program Features:

  • Enriching Faith –Based learning which celebrates the young child’s openness to growing spiritually in our Catholic Identity.
  • Weekly Prayer and Praise in our Child Size Chapel.
  • “Get Set for School” getsetforschool.com an award–winning Pre-K curriculum which aligns to the State of Michigan Standards for Early Learning
  • Qualified Teachers and Aides who are certified and catechist trained.
  • Positive Parent support and interaction is encouraged and embraced.
  • Play and learning are interconnected and positive social interactions are valued.
  • Hands on Learning that includes: religion, language & literacy, art, science, math, technology & music.
  • Physical development is enhanced with outside play, music and movement, large motor activities in the gym and once a week in our Sensory Program.

Preschool offerings 
 
Kindergarten

The Our Lady of Sorrows Kindergarten Program is aligned to the Archdiocese of Detroit religion and learning standards .Our Curriculum and school day are designed to meet the developmental needs of a young child who is five by September 1. Our program encourages growth spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically. In the spring before the start of the Kindergarten school year the children are scheduled by appointment to take the Brigance test which screens their readiness and learning skills.

Our Program Features:

  • Spiritual growth through our religion program that is taught by certified teachers who are Catechist of the Catholic Faith.
  • Weekly All School Mass
  • Academic Standards that are infused with our Catholic identity aod.org
  • Reading program that feature the Awarding winning Daily 5 structure Daily Cafe  taught by certified teachers who are trained.
  • STREAM program that aligns to our grade school curriculum to promote ongoing learning at every stage of development.
  • Respect for each child’s learning style and individualized skill level of learning.
  • A well –rounded school day that continues to promote learning through play and encourage a child’s love for learning.

Kids Club

Our Lady of Sorrows recognizes the need for school-based childcare within our community. Our Kids Club program is licensed by the State of Michigan and is staffed and supervised to provide a safe and fun environment before and after school. Kids club operates according to our school calendar and is available from 7:00 AM until school begins and after school until 6:00PM. Registration is required prior to participation in Kid’s Club.
